Crowsflight is a GPS compass that simply points. No instructions, maps to read or paths to follow. When we ask for directions on the street, a friendly finger pointing towards the destination is often more than enough.

By combining location data (GPS) with the compass, Crowsflight provides mapless navigation in an intuitive, glance-at-it kind of way.

It uses only GPS to navigate, so once you’ve loaded your destination/s, you don’t need a data connection to navigate. Crowsflight is perfect for wandering around foreign cities.

MAIN VIEW
-Displays distance in metric or imperial units

-Drop a marker at your current position (if you have a data connection, Crowsflight will attempt to autoname your location)

-Heading pointer changes width as the compass/GPS accuracy increases or decreases

LIST VIEW
-Search for a new destination by address or placename

-Input latitude and longitude manually (e.g. open search, enter 40.692,-73.944)

-search for what3words (offline)

-Location list view shows your relative distance to each location, so you can see how places compare (distances are scaled logarithmically, so shorter distances show greater difference)

-Rearrange your location list by long-pressing the row

-Share your current location via email

-Launch Maps to get turn-by-turn directions

MAP VIEW
-Map view shows and allows you to select all your saved locations. It’s another way to see what is around you.

-Drag and drop pins in map view to pinpoint and adjust locations

-Longpress in map view to save a new location on your map. (if you have a data connection, Crowsflight will attempt to autoname your location)

OTHER FEATURES
-Works offline (searching is the only function that requires an internet connection)

-Opens custom url schemes (e.g. crowsflight://&ll=42.923580,-78.793953&q=BUFFALO). You can send Crowsflight destinations to yourself and friends via email. To get the browser bookmarklet for easy sharing, go to http://cwandt.com/#crowsflight

-Backup your locations to your computer through iTunes file sharing

-save and sync locations to iCloud

APPLE WATCH
- same pointing interface as iPhone app

- swipe to select from locations that youve add on your phone.

-pro tip: If your running app keeps taking over as frontmost app, you can double press the crown to switch back to the last app.

*Crowsflight is not meant for driving. Most cars have too much magnetic interference to show the compass reliably in the car anyways. You probably want turn by turn directions if you’re driving, but just in case you were thinking about it...we don’t recommend it.

Pros and cons of Crowsflight app for iPhone and iPad

Crowsflight app good for

I like it very much, I would like to can point people too. Thanks.
I love the idea of not always taking the most economic route... but "the rest of the world" is living with metric scale, and I did not find a way to change the programs setting
Standard maps apps really annoyed me since I often found myself staring on the phone instead of exploring a new place. Crowsflight brings the fun of exploring back as it gives you all the information you need to know when going somewhere new: direction and distance. Now I can follow my intuition again plus have an eye for the surrounding. Brilliant UX and very beautiful UI! Works in Germany as well.
Easiest and prettiest navigation app Ive used! Great for walking places!
This a great little app. Looks beautiful and works well for what its meant to so. It does have metric, just tap the centre circle that displays the distance on miles and it will kick over to metric.
Great for big cities like Toronto. Quick alternative to google maps, good for quickly finding things on the go.

Some bad moments

The whole interface looks sleek and is easy to navigate. The search function either doesnt show up a place or most of the time it is located somewhere else on the map, sometimes in another country.
Cool concept and execution. Two requests: First, I need to be able to enter an alias for a GPS based location. I dont know whats what when looking at a long list of GPS coords. I need to be able to specify a name so that i know what Im looking at. Second, Id like to be able to enter GPS coordinates using DMS in addition to Decimal. Thanks, and keep up the good work.
Its a simple app. Select a point and it will give you the direction on a compass. It has a special use case. Its not an app for getting directions. I think it is very elegantly done.
I love this concept. Needs: ability to send location link via SMS instead of only email. This app is perfect for finding friends at a concert / event when Internet is bogged down by crowds. Many times text messages still work, so this would be a great improvement!
Love it! I travel a lot to chaotic cities and often find that the orderly image on the map does not match the jumbled reality. This app solves this problem perfectly - I simply walk to wherever it tells me to and arrive one way or another. Bonus points for the awesome UI.
Very interesting design and graphics. BUT....right off the bat it places the test location Im looking for (a major hotel a mile from my house) miles away across town. Not a good start for a map application. Until they fix this glaring problem, its just a 10 second piece of eye-candy and then deleted. Ill check back some other time if I remember to.
